perhaps since I have taken care of gun shot injuries I expected this to be very serious. It was. The man arrived at the trauma unit shocky, and in real trouble. Reading between the lines to what the trauma chief said, when he said near death, in circulatory collapse.
He is hardly the only one to reach the shock trauma unit like that. But he was talking in the field! The body tends to try to compensate, until it can't. So you go from a person who is talking, to a person who is dying rather fast. I am sure that a few large vessels were nicked and there was internal bleeding. Like lots of it.
The reality is that you cannot get 300+ firearms off the streets. But making jokes about getting shot in the butt are in bad taste.
However, if I have a choice...I will take a .45 ACP any day over any riffle round. It is about energy, and energy transfer. Rifle rounds simply put carry a lot more energy than a pistol round. And even with pistols, some carry more energy than others.
